Throughout history man has measured a horse's worth by what the horse could do for man. Horses have provided transport, done hard labor, carried soldiers into battle, performed as athletes and entertainers and have provided pleasure to millions. Somewhere along the way man has forgotten the true value of the horse…

As we watch our horses just being horses, we can truly appreciate their intrinsic value. They are awesome creatures to behold. We are often awestruck by their bravery and their loyalty to each other and we are inspired daily by their intelligence, curiosity and playfulness.

We feel we are indebted to these magnificent beings. So, on behalf of mankind, Refuge RR is giving back that which should never have been taken away, their freedom, and providing them with the protection that is owed to them.

Let us join Len and the Ottawa Animal Defense League in support of Refuge RR 's winter call for funds campaign. With all the generous donations to date , including the very generous donation by Alexandra Jablonsky in honour of her mother Janet Baker , we have managed to pay for the urgent well repairs that at least help out with part of the water problem.

The winter hay and feed  costs for all the horses and certain other animals are around $1,500.00 per week . No donation is too small and every little bit counts !

We would like to send a special thank you to Alexandra Jablonsky who made a generous donation on behalf of her beloved mother Janet Baker. Janet was an extremely kind woman who taught her daughter from the beginning of life to respect and love animals around her . She was such a beautiful and compassionate woman who will be sadly missed by humans and animals alike .

A huge thank you to Len and the Ottawa Animal Defense League for their "winter call for funds" campaign . While it's difficult all year round to raise the huge amount of funds needed to care for the animals at  Refuge RR and do the hard work load with very little or no help , it is that much more difficult during the winter months especially with well problems . The recent invoice for repair of the well was of $ 5,000.00 and ideally a new pump would be called for . The cost for hay and feed alone is well over $ 1,000.00  per week . Needless to say , the Refuge needs massive financial help all year round.
